ABELLIO Albarino 2016

Rectoral do Umia is one of a handful of wineries in Galicia in North West Spain under the ownership of Family Wine Group Vinos y Bodegas Gallegas. The state of the art Rectoral do Umia winery, where Abellio Albariño is made, is located in the Salnes Valley and was built in 2009. The vineyards are located on some of the best sites of Rias Baixas in the sub-regions of Salnes, Condado and Ulla. The fruit is sourced from vineyards of average age 7-20 years, which are trained guyot (30%) and high pergola system (70%). The soils are 50% granitic with equal proportions of clay and sand.

Technical Details

Grape Variety: Albariño 100%, DO Rias Baixas

Winemaking: The fruit, hand-harvested in early September, reaches the winery within two hours of harvest in 18 kg crates. The grapes are de-stemmed and macerated prior to a light crush and fermentation in temperature controlled stainless steel tanks, to retain flavour and freshness.

Alcohol: 12%

Tasting Notes

Colour: The 2015 Abellio Albariño visually it is clean, bright, pale yellow with green hues.

Bouquet: The nose has aromas of white fruit and tropical fruit with floral nuances.

Palate: On the palate it shows well integrated acidity, good concentration and balance. The freshness and fleshy texture of the stone fruit notes provides a great sense of harmony, yet with a beautifully crisp, zesty finish.

Accompaniments: Serve lightly chilled with a range of tapas such as deep fried white bait or squid, freshly sliced jamon, peppers with Ortiz anchovies, or a white fish soup.
